Adoption status: Adopted! |
Hi! My name is now Hoshi and it means “star” in Japanese! I am a 5-year-old male red Shiba Inu. I lived with one family my whole life. I was an only dog but had 2 small human brothers. I was surrendered for nipping at strangers that visited the home. I only did it 3 times in my whole life and I didn’t draw blood, but I nipped at a plumber, gardener, and a visitor during a game of soccer. My family took very good care of me and I was loved but I never had any formal training and DC SIR thinks I would really benefit from this. I met DC SIR’s neutral dog during my assessment and I did great with her! I also let the volunteer touch me all over without any protest or discomfort! I let the volunteer touch my paws, teeth, and ears, and even pick me up. I also do really well at the vet. My family did all my vetting prior to coming into rescue, so DC SIR said I just need to wait the 2 week minimum behavior assessment before I am available for adoption.
I was pretty nervous after I said bye to my family and had a drive with the stranger to Shiba HQ, but she had yummy boiled chicken. She kept giving me small bits of this delicious treat. I gently took each piece of food she offered. The volunteer said I am such a sensitive and gentle boy. When I got to Shiba HQ I got to explore the smell of the garden all by myself. They soon let dogs out one at a time and I got to see my friend from the assessment. I was happy to see her and even did zoomies with her in the yard. Soon I met other dogs and I did really well with everyone. DC SIR said they still need to assess me with cats.
I am about 28 lbs and really handsome! I might need to lose about 5 lbs but I’m a compact guy. I’ve been sticking to the DC SIR volunteer’s side whenever I get nervous. She always tells me that everything will be ok and that I’m a good boy. I think I can trust her. DC SIR is going to update you on my adoption requirements in 2 weeks. They’ll be able to tell you more about me then but I can tell you now that I have a lot of love to give. Hoshi is a male Shiba Inu. Please share his story to help him find a forever home or email adoption@dcsir.org for details on Hoshi after his 2 week assessment.
