Events & Contests
6/01/13 Tail Waggin’ Rescue Event, Manassas Dog Park
It was a hot summer day, but our dogs were still excited to play and make new friends! DCSIR was there to educate people about the breed and provide information about our foster program and volunteer positions. Thanks to everyone who braved the heat to join us for this event!
6/01/13 – 6/16/13 Helping Hands contest
We had the opportunity to win a $1500 or a $1000 medical credit for our rescues at the Helping Hands Affordable Veterinary Surgery and Dental Care in Richmond, VA. While we may not have won the big prize, we did receive a credit of $75 from Helping Hands. We were encouraged by the votes we received, and are incredibly grateful for all or the support we received during this competition! Thank you again to Helping Hands and to all of you who voted!
6/01/13 – 6/30/13 Photo Contest
We hosted a month-long photo contest in which contestants could submit photos of their shibas for a chance to win in one of three categories: Shiba Summer Fun, Shibas & Kids, and Shibas & Cats. The photo with the most “likes” at the end of the month won, and the winner received a personalized dog tag from DOGTAGART.com, the company that provides our wonderful rescue tags!
Congratulations to the 3 winning submissions!
Thank you again to everyone who participated by submitting and voting! Keep an eye out for more contests in the future!
6/21/13 Take Your Dog to Work Day
DC SIR foster Kuma reminded everyone to participate in Take Your Dog to Work Day
6/22/13 – First Official DC SIR Pack Walk/Hike
DC SIR is had its first official pack walk/hike at Great Falls Park in Virginia. This guided walk, approximately 3 miles in total, through the magnificent Great Falls Park, gave attending dogs an opportunity to smell new scents and meet new people and dogs without being overwhelmed in a fenced meetup. View the photo album for pictures from the event!
6/29/13 – Shiba Prom!
This was DC SIR’s first year participating in Shiba Prom, and online fundraising event for Shiba rescues. Not only did we raise funds through registrations and tickets sold for our raffle basket, but one of our own rescues, Nami, made it onto the Shiba Prom Court as a nominee for Prom Queen!
Thank you to everyone who purchased raffle tickets and nominated & voted for Nami!
Summer Safety
DC SIR created a Pinterest board on ways to keep your Shiba cool and safe all summer long!
