Hello everyone, my name is now Aika, and it means ‘Love Song’ in Japanese. I am a 2-year-old female, Shiba Inu. I lived on a farm for a bit before I was adopted by a family that loved me very much. Unfortunately, they were not told I have heartworm, and they are unable to care for me through the treatment due to life circumstances. Lucky for me, they sought out DC SIR to ensure that I would get the best care so that I would be healthier than ever! I am a sweet and shy red Shiba Inu with a lot of love to give. I love meeting other dogs, but I am not excitable and will just come out to sniff and do a typical aloof Shiba Inu greeting! I am shy and nervous around people, but as I get to know my foster family, I have started to explore my surroundings. I am a gentle girl with a low prey drive. I have met and got along with the resident cat and even the bunnies that live here too. When I arrived at Shiba HQ, I mostly wanted to hide outside in the garden. I only came out when a new dog was in the yard. My foster mom would carry me inside and put me in an xpen to cool off. Soon I gained trust for my foster family, and I learned how to use the dog door to come and go as I please. As I get more comfortable, I am exploring my new home. I also go on short hiking adventures to bond with my foster siblings. I can’t do too much exercise because of my heartworm, but I do enjoy little adventures! DC SIR has a holistic approach to treating heartworm, and they will focus on building up my immune system and creating a healthy microbiome to heal quickly! It is time-consuming and expensive, but they promise I will be happier and healthier than ever before! I hope you follow me on my healing journey.
