Chiba is a 7-year old male Shiba who came to DC SIR because his family had to move and he could not come along. He’s a sweet, gentle, and active boy who loves people!
Chiba is a sensitive soul and takes his time adjusting to change. At first he was nervous, sad, and would wait by the door for his people. He soon realized his foster home was a safe and loving place when his fosters helped him adjust to his new home with kindness and treats. Chiba would do well in a patient home that will continue him on regular exercise and a raw, species-appropriate nutrient-dense diet to help him reach and maintain a healthy weight. He gets very excited about going on walks and will sit by the door and whine when he wants to go out. Rain or shine, Chiba loves to explore the sights and smells of the great outdoors before winding down with some pets and belly rubs from his foster parents. He has fun with squeaky toys and treat puzzles while his foster parents work from home and will often check in with them mid-afternoon for a screen break and walk outside.
A few years ago Chiba was attacked by a large dog and since then is no longer fond of other canines. He has not shown interest in meeting other dogs and will sometimes growl and bark at dogs passing by the house. Chiba also lived with a small human brother and another dog for a few years but they could not get along. Chiba would do best in a home as the only dog where he can get all the human love, attention, and yard space to himself! He’s good with body handling, brushing, and did we mention he loves belly rubs?
