Hello everyone, my name is now Freya, just like the Norse goddess of love. I’m one of the Valentine pups released from an Ohio mill. I am a small and shy little Shiba Inu. DC SIR thinks I may be the shyest of the bunch. I tried hiding myself in a tiny ball while in the shower at Shiba HQ. I didn’t know what was happening. The volunteer tried to tell me everything was OK and my life was going to get so much better. She said there is a family out there who will love me and make me feel safe for the rest of my life. I do really well with other dogs, and DC SIR thinks I will do best in a home with another friendly dog to help me trust people. I don’t have a mean bone in my body – I just shut down and crouch into a small ball if something new happens that scares me. DC SIR placed me in a foster home with two other dogs and a small child. My foster family has a lot of Shiba experience and will make sure that I have a safe space and quiet crate to retreat to. I had a long drive from Shiba HQ to my foster home, but I just laid down and slept the whole way. Once I got to my foster home, I got to explore the yard. I was a little nervous at first and just tried to hide, but then I started to explore and smell all the new smells. After I explored the yard alone for a while, my foster parents let me meet the resident dogs one at a time, and they were so nice to me that I didn’t get scared! After introductions, we all went inside, and I explored the house a little bit. Then, I found a spot in my foster parent’s bedroom in a dog bed where I felt safe. I don’t really leave my spot unless it’s to go potty, but my foster parents believe once I’m more comfortable and know I’m safe, I will be more confident to go explore more. Once I have my spay and vetting, I will be available for adoption. If you think you would be a good home for me, please let DC SIR know you want to adopt me!
