Hi everyone, my name is now Houdini because my foster mom says I am an escape artist. I am a 4-year-old, red female Shiba Inu. I am bigger than some of the other mill girls. I was rescued with 31 other Shibas from a commercial puppy mill release. I am one of the 12 Shiba Inus that went to DC SIR. I arrived early in the morning at Shiba HQ after an all day drive. I got out of my harness, and the volunteers had to chase me around the large fenced backyard for an hour in the rain before they caught me! In the morning, we all got baths to clean away the years of filth. I needed a foster home with a tall, secure fence because I ran very fast and tried to escape the yard at Shiba HQ. Soon my foster mom arrived to pick me up, along with Latke, and we went on another car ride. She put me in a crate in the back of her car, which I busted out of in less than 20 minutes. When we arrived at my new foster home, I ran around the backyard looking for an escape, but soon I got to meet the two resident dogs, who happily greeted Latke and me. They seemed very loved, which helped me to be less scared. I stopped trying to find an escape from her yard and began to have fun running around with my new friends! I was so excited to be free from my tiny cage. I have a lot of energy, and it can take me a while to settle down. I am very playful and would love another friendly dog to play with. My foster mom says that I walk pretty well on a leash for a puppy mill girl. I am adventurous and curious and will probably love to go on long hikes once I am more used to my leash. I am learning to trust humans for the first time and am still a little bit skittish about fast or unexpected movements. I have started to come up to my foster mom on my own, and I like when she gives me gentle massages on my shoulder. I will be a great fit for an active family with playful dogs!
