Hello everyone, my name is now Junmai, which means “pure rice”. I am a 4-year old, 35lb, female, cream Shiba Inu. I lived with the same family since I was a puppy but my family has become more busy recently and could no longer give me the attention I need. They reached out to DC SIR to help find me a home that can do just that. DC SIR was told I’m a bit cautious at first with new people and will eventually warm up. While I was the only dog in my previous home, I did occasionally meet other dogs at the dog park. First, I had an intake assessment with a DC SIR volunteer. I did well with her handling and I rode well in the car, even though I was confused why I was going to a new place and not back to my home. The nice DC SIR volunteer reassured me everything would be ok. I got the opportunity to meet her shibas and we ran around the backyard together while I waited for my foster parents to pick me up. Soon I got to meet them and explore my new foster home! They have big windows for me to watch what goes on outside and a fenced backyard for potty breaks. I check the doors now and then to see if it’s time to go home yet. My foster parents are kind and patient as they help me settle in with treats and pets. I’ve already claimed my spot on the couch! My foster mom took me on a walk to explore new sights and smells too. I’ve already wolfed down some yummy raw food. DC SIR hopes to get my weight down with a nutrient-dense diet and regular exercise. They will let you know more about me after my initial two-week behavior and temperament assessment. Apply to adopt me at dcsir.org!
