Hello everyone, my name is now Kairi, and it means “Sea” in Japanese. I am an 8-month-old female Shiba Inu puppy born on January 2, 2022. Unfortunately, I was too much for my family with a newborn child. I am very high energy and mouthy, so that I will do best in a home with children 12 years and older. Otherwise, I am a happy, playful puppy and very food motivated! I love other dogs, but I just don’t understand personal space. I’m in a house with multiple Shibas, and I just pester them constantly, trying to get them to play with me. I do this by nipping at their face and hanging on their back until they growl at me to back off. I just don’t get that they don’t want to play nonstop. I‘m super fast, so if anyone snaps at me, I am already zooming away or running circles around them! DC SIR thinks I will do best in a house with another friendly and playful dog. I won’t do well with dogs that are reactive or don’t like me in their face because I will just keep coming back for more play!!! When the dogs don’t play with me, sometimes I like to chase the cat. My foster mom is redirecting me from these bad behaviors. I am super smart and very food motivated. I love puzzle toys and enrichment games that involve food. I’m high energy and will require an active family that can keep up with me! I am great with body handling, and I let my foster mom trim my nails, handle my harness and brush me. BUT when I decide I want to run around, I have Olympic-level wriggling skills and will wriggle right out of your arms! I got to go to a DC SIR event soon after I came into the rescue. I had such a great time! I LOVE meeting new people and new dogs. There isn’t a dog I won’t try to kiss in the face, and I love treats and pets from people! Anyway, I am vetted and healthy. I just need my 2-week behavior assessment, and I’ll be ready for my furever home!
