Hello everyone, my name is now Kaito, and it means ‘supportive person’ in Japanese. I am a 3-year-old, 31lb, male Shiba Inu. I was in a Georgia shelter waiting for someone to rescue me when DC SIR got a message from another rescue that I needed help. This was far from DC SIR, so it took some time to find a ride for me. Luckily, fans came together quickly to spend the day driving me from Georgia to the DC area. I was so happy to get out of the shelter and could barely sit still on the long ride. I was recently neutered at the shelter, so I am a bit uncomfortable. When I arrived at Shiba HQ, I only had a few minutes to run in the yard with the other dogs before I had to head up to my bath. I screamed when the volunteer picked me up because I didn’t know her well, and I was scared of what she would do to me. She stayed calm and told me it was going to be ok. I leaned into her during my bath, and it took a long time for the water to run clear. I was very dirty and kind of smelled bad too. Once my shower was done, I was happy and did the zoomies. When the volunteer tried to pick me up again, I screamed and nipped at her to let her know how scary she was being! She knew things were moving too fast, so she got boiled chicken and a harness, leash, and collar. She sat with me and took her time getting these on me so she could walk me down to the main room rather than carry me. I liked that and was happy to follow. I got to take a nap on the couch while I waited for my foster mom. I was so exhausted from the long drive that I fell asleep. When the volunteer came back, she brought me some raw Answers Pet Food, and I ate it all up, it was so good! I am nervous about being touched on the head, and I flinch if anyone moves toward my head too fast. But after yummy treats and a gentle massage, I started to warm up to her. I was really happy to meet my foster mom, and I ran into her arms and rubbed my face on her chest. I think she likes me too. I’ll be the only dog, so she’ll let everyone know more about me soon!
