Hello, my name is Kintsugi, but I am called Sugi. I was a puppy mill release to DC SIR back in 2018 when I was five years old. I wasn’t able to produce puppies anymore, so the mill released me at a young age. I was adopted by a loving couple and thrived in their care. Unfortunately, both my adopters ended up with medical emergencies and DC SIR was contacted to take me back. A family member said I would go to a shelter if I wasn’t picked up quickly, so my foster mom canceled her scheduled trip and drove over 6 hours to pick me up and ensure I wouldn’t end up terrified in a shelter. DC SIR recommends that everyone make a plan for their pets should an emergency occur. The volunteers may not always be able to drop everything and drive long distances at a moment’s notice. DC SIR met with a neighbor to get me. I was fearful of a stranger picking me up, but I didn’t protest. I rode quietly in my crate to Shiba HQ. When I arrived, I met other fosters and the resident Shibas I once lived with years ago. I got along great with everyone, including the resident cat. I was a little nervous and confused in the house. I kept searching for the door that would take me to the home I had known and loved for the past 5 years but couldn’t find it. I wouldn’t eat or take treats for a couple of days. My foster mom made some boiled chicken, and I couldn’t resist! I started eating again. I settled in and enjoyed exploring the large yard. I have come a long way since my mill days. I enjoy sleeping on the couch or snuggling into a cozy dog bed. DC SIR says I am up to date on my medical and know my temperament, so I am available for adoption right away. I have no health issues and a kind disposition. I am still a mill dog, so I can be a bit shy around people, but I get along great with dogs and cats and would love to find a forever home!
