Hello everyone, my name is now Ko, and it means “child” in Japanese. I am a 4-year-old, cream female, Shiba Inu, who was released from a puppy mill with my sister, Kaida. We have lived our entire lives together in a concrete run outdoors. We are a bonded pair and must be adopted together. I recently had a litter of puppies, so my fur is out, and I am recovering. We are friendly Shiba Inus, and while we are fearful, we aren’t as scared as the typical mill dog. I am shyer than my sister, but I’ll come up to you if she greets you first. I got sick after the 4-hour ride to Shiba HQ, but I started to feel better once I could explore the large yard. When I met the other friendly dogs, Aika and Katniss, I felt more confident to explore with my sister. The ground felt strange and soft. I only ever walked and slept on concrete. It felt so good doing zoomies. I explored the large yard, met other dogs, and followed my sister. Soon we had to get a bath, which wasn’t fun, but the volunteer spoke softly and tried to comfort me. It felt good to dry off in the warm sun and prance on the soft grass! My foster mom said we need to sleep in an xpen the first few nights we live in the house to ensure we don’t hurt ourselves. We tried to get out, so she laid down in the xpen with us until we fell asleep. She had to put us on the soft bed because we weren’t used to it, and I thought I had to sleep on the hard floor. We got treats and another potty break and slept through the night. We learned the dog door and love it here! My sister and I will get a complete check-up and medical care to ensure we are healthy and ready to live a life of comfort.
