Hello everyone, my name is now Kumi, and it means “forever beautiful” in Japanese. I am a black and tan female, Shiba Inu, born August 11, 2021. I had a wonderful mom and dad who loved me very much and wanted the very best for me. Unfortunately, their life circumstances changed, so they could no longer afford to care for me. They wanted to ensure I would get the best life possible, so they were happy to find DC SIR. I have done really well with my training; my pawrents taught me sits and paw. I love to play with other dogs and get treats for doing smart things. I am a bit nervous around new people, but I will be a cuddle bug when I trust you! My family told DC SIR that I love to run in the yard, and I prance around like a gazelle when I have the freedom to run! When the volunteer for DC SIR picked me up, I was nervous. My mom sent me with my favorite bed, crate, and toys so my transition to foster care would be comfortable. I went on a long drive to Shiba HQ with my foster parents. We stopped at the hardware store, and I got to explore new smells. I enjoyed greeting people and practicing my sits! I preferred to sit in my crate for the drive to Shiba HQ. Once I arrived at Shiba HQ, I explored the yard with my foster /parents. Soon I met the other Shibas and did great with everyone! I’m just a 5-month-old puppy, so I need to learn manners and not linger in other dog’s faces too long, but this is the place to learn manners! I love running in the big yard, chasing snowballs, digging in snow mounds, and following the other Shibas. DC SIR thinks my parents did a great job socializing me and don’t see any major issues, but I need to go through a two-week medical and temperament assessment before they match the requirements for my adoptive family. Please follow my album with DC SIR, and if you think you’ll be a good fit for me, tell DC SIR! You can donate to my care with DC SIR on PayPal using dcshibainurescue@gmail.com.

UPDATE:
Kumi is a 7-month old female, black and tan Shiba Inu. She was surrendered to DC SIR because her owners had life changes. She is a sweet Shiba Inu who gets along with every person and dog she meets. She is happy-go-lucky and loves to play but can be a bit ‘in-your-face’ for older or more reserved dogs. She is potty trained and now has full roaming privileges of the house at all times (at night and when her foster is away) without any destruction. Kumi does have access to a dog door to take herself out for potty breaks. She can be a ‘runner’ if she sees you left the door open too long while bringing in groceries, but she does come back when called. Kumi LOVES other dogs so much we think she would do best in a home with another friendly dog to occupy her high energy. She loves toys and loves to take toys out into the yard. Kumi LOVES being outside and exploring the large yard. Her only ‘bad’ habit of bringing in sticks to chew inside on her bed and mulching the room. Kumi is food motivated and will learn quickly!
