Hello everyone, my name is now Mikan, which means “tangerine.” I am a small 7-year-old black and tan female Shiba Inu. I lived my entire life, never knowing the comfort and security of a home and loving family. You see, I have lived my whole life outside being bred for puppies. I didn’t get to run free with my puppies. They grew up in the cage with me for a bit until they were shipped to people who bought them online. I got lucky when DC SIR got the call to pick me up. They said my life would be a lot different. I was nervous to see the volunteer, but she gave me chicken when she put me in my travel crate & I just gobbled it! Once we reached Shiba HQ, I got to explore the yard on my own before meeting the resident dogs. I was so happy to run and sniff everything around me. Soon, the other dogs came out to greet me, which made me more comfortable, so I put my tail up and pranced around with them. The fun soon ended because it was time for my bath and nail trim. My nails were so long it hurt to walk, and my fur was so dirty that I smelled real bad. I was such a good girl in the shower. I didn’t make a peep during my grooming, and I leaned into the volunteer for comfort. She did notice that I have a large lump on my lower abdomen, so they noted this for the vet to do a biopsy. After my shower, I got to meet a cat and did great with him. I then got a yummy meal and explored the house and yard some more. DC SIR sent an email to schedule my medical, so I should be available for adoption once I am medically cleared. Please consider donating to my medical fund to help me quickly get the care I need!
Update: Mikan is estimated to be about 7 or 8 years old. She was released to DC SIR from a Pennsylvania puppy mill. This sweet girl is so happy to be free and living the good life. We think she had to have lived in a home before since she is able to walk nicely on a leash and enjoys leash walks. Mikan is excellent with dogs and cats but can be a bit fearful of new people, especially men.
