Hello everyone, my name is now Miwa, and it means ‘beautiful harmony’ in Japanese. I am a 10-week-old female puppy. I was surrendered to DC SIR from a PA puppy mill. The vet told the breeder that I have an overbite, so they released me to the rescue liaison that DC SIR works with. When the volunteers got to PA I was cowering in the back of my crate. We had a long three-hour drive back to Shiba HQ. The volunteers said I smelled so bad that they had to open the windows. I was tired and confused, so I slept most of the way. I wouldn’t take any treats either. When I finally arrived at Shiba HQ, I got to meet the neutral dog, Katniss. I was so happy to see another dog, & I wagged my tail and followed her everywhere. I soon met the other dogs at Shiba HQ, and I was happy to be around so many dogs. It wasn’t long before the volunteer got me in the shower to wash off all the feces and urine from my fur. Once I was clean and dry, I got to explore the house & yard. My foster mom says I’m super smart since I learned how to use the dog door right away! I am hand shy, and I will cringe away if you try to pet my head, but my foster mom will work on gentle handling with me. I also screamed the first few times my foster mom picked me up. She took her time to pair positive things with carrying me so I don’t mind her holding me. I am more fearful of men, so they will work on that too. DC SIR thinks I never ran on grass. Once I got to the grass I frolicked and tumbles & did the zoomies! I had so much room to run! I also didn’t understand all the toys they gave me. Finally, my foster mom showed me how to play with a stuffed toy, and once I understood, I played a lot! I have a friend Ryuji who plays me with me too. He lets me share his toys, and sometimes I bark at him if I want his toy! DC SIR has a lot of socialization catch up to do with me. They are going to work on building my confidence & enjoying touch from people. DC SIR says I will be VERY popular, so please be kind to the volunteers who spend every night doing calls to find me the perfect home!
