Hello everyone, my name is now Ocha, and it means ‘tea’ in Japanese. I am a 10-year-old female Shiba Inu. I was surrendered to a MD shelter because my owners let my nails grow so long that they curled under my paw and impaled my paw pads. They told the shelter that they didn’t have the money needed to have my nails removed from my pad. Thankfully, the shelter immediately got me the medical care I needed to relieve me from the excruciating pain. The shelter knew I would need follow up medical care, so they contacted DC SIR. The rescue said they would come first thing in the morning to pick me up and bring me to a foster home. This made me so happy because I was scared living in a busy shelter. Funny thing is I was at this shelter back in 2015. DC SIR was contacted to bring me into their rescue then, but my owners decided to get me on the last day of the stray hold. I wonder what my life would be like if I was rescued back then. Let me tell you about my journey today. I was nervous when I first met the DC SIR volunteer, but she was very gentle with me and said to me that everything would be ok, I would be safe, loved, and no longer live in pain. I started to take the boiled chicken from her on the car ride to Shiba HQ. Eventually, I settled down and napped on the long drive. Once I arrived at Shiba HQ I got to explore the yard on my own, and then I met the rescue dogs and got along with everyone. I mostly wanted to drink water and take a nap. I was offered food with the group of Shibas at HQ but wasn’t ready to eat. Soon I followed the volunteer everywhere and napped wherever she sat down. I only stayed at Shiba HQ for a couple of hours because I am going to another foster home. There will be three other Shibas there. I’ll let you know how that goes if you follow my album and my pictures on Instagram! DC SIR is setting up vet appointments for my follow up vet care. I can’t wait to walk again and find a family who will love and care for me and ensure I never end up in such preventable pain as I have been.
