Hello everyone, my name is now Ryuji, and it means ‘dragon rule’ in Japanese. I am a 2.5-year-old, AKC-registered, 35lb, male Shiba Inu. I’ve had two families in my short life. My recent owners surrendered me because I was not getting along with the other male dog in the home. I did great with my dad when I was an only dog, but when we added his girlfriend and other dogs, there were lots of fights. I am really a great dog and do well around most dogs, but DC SIR thinks I should be an only dog to ensure I can really have a forever home. Let me tell you a little about myself. I am a handsome boy with a dark face and cute eyebrows. I did great on my dog-assessment with the neutral dog, Katniss, at the dog park. I didn’t react to any dogs on leash and I had no issues meeting Katniss or the other dogs at the park. I also passed my body handling assessment with the volunteer. On the drive to Shiba HQ, I was a bit nervous and kept panting. I kept trying to get in the front seat, and I gave the volunteer lots of face kisses (she gave me yummy boiled chicken!). Once I arrived at Shiba HQ, I got to explore the yard then meet the other resident dogs one by one. My owners took good care of me, my nails are trimmed, and my fur is clean, so I didn’t have to have a bath. I met all the other dogs, and I did great with everyone – even the growly dogs. But I was still nervous and stuck by the volunteer any time the other dogs would growl at me. After some time, I settled down and took a nap. My previous owners said I have some quirks that people should know about, for example, I may growl or snap if you startle me out of my sleep. I also don’t like having a harness put on, but with some yummy treats, I don’t mind so much. I get to spend the day in a multidog home until my foster mom picks me up. I’ll be an only dog in an apartment. DC SIR will let you know my requirements after my initial 2-week medical and behavior assessment. DC SIR thinks I am a great dog that can be your best friend if I am in the right home. Please follow and share my story to help me find a forever home!
