Hello everyone, my new name is now Sayuri and it means, ‘small lily’ in Japanese. I am a 13-year-old female Shiba Inu! I am blind, my teeth are in bad shape, my nails are painfully long, I have a mammary tumor, and I have been so scared. My family sent me to a kill shelter. They told the shelter that their landlord would no longer let them keep me. So I made myself tiny in that strange place so no one could see me like I couldn’t see them. I felt so lonely, I didn’t understand what was going on. None of the loud sounds and strange smells were like home. I started to lose hope, listening to the sounds of desperation, pain and confusion of other dogs, that I’d ever have a home again.
Thankfully, a nice woman at the shelter saw my fear and took me to her office as often as she could so I wouldn’t be so alone. This brought me joy and I would roll on my back for belly rubs and squeal with excitement as if I were a puppy again when she told me I was a pretty girl.
When DC SIR got an email about my plight, they responded in minutes to inquire about bringing me into their family. They know that seniors have given so much of their life to unconditionally loving humans. But since DC SIR have had so many special needs dogs they weren’t sure they could get the funds needed to help me. But my life got even better when I found out that DC SIR was coming all the way to Georgia to bring me into their family. When I arrived, I got a bath, had my nails trimmed, and ate some nutritious food before going to bed. I was so happy to be cared for and gave kisses to everyone who handled me. I bonded with the allergy dog who traveled from GA with me. We both got to sleep in the bed with the volunteer and we cuddled all night! I didn’t hear any scary sounds. I felt safe again. Thank you to everyone who helped save me!
