Hello everyone, my name is now Sweetpea; my name was given to me by a fan! I’m one of the Valentine pups released from an Ohio mill. When I got to Shiba HQ, I was able to get out of my harness and run around the yard until 3 am when the volunteer finally caught me! I am timid but very curious. On my drive from Shiba HQ to my foster home, I curled up in a dog bed, stared at my foster mom the whole drive, and let her pet me! Once I got to my foster home, I got to explore the yard. I tried to find a way to escape, but once I realized there was no way out, I just sniffed around the yard. I found a spot next to the shed to hide, and then my foster mom let me meet the resident dogs one at a time. I was so excited to see other dogs that I came out from my hiding spot and followed them around. After introductions, we all went inside, and I explored the house. I stood on my hind legs at the counter to see what was up there. I am tall and like to steal whatever I can off the counter, and I have stolen the dish rags multiple times. I found a spot in the corner next to the table and curled up. My foster mom put a dog bed there for me, and ever since, that has been my safe spot. My foster mom noticed that I am not very bothered by loud noises, and she said I’m braver than the resident dog, Juneau! She was able to do the dishes without it bothering me, but I did not like the vacuum at all (who does!?) I will take treats from my foster mom’s hand! I like gentle pets on my chest and shoulders, and I am really good at body handling; my foster mom had to carry me in and out of the backyard the first few days, but now I go out and come in on my own. I have not had any accidents! I know how to climb up and down stairs. Sometimes, I howl when my foster mom leaves the room. Once I have my spay and vetting, I will be available for adoption. If you think you would be a good home for me, please let DC SIR know you want to adopt me!
