Hello everyone, my name is now Taiga, and it means “large river’ in Japanese. I am 14-week-old male cream Shiba Inu! I was purchased from a puppy mill in PA. But the people who bought me didn’t want me anymore, and I was returned to the mill. They contacted a liaison to DC SIR, and a volunteer drove 4 hours to pick me up right away! She was surprised at what a big boi I am at just three months old! I have super huge paws and wiggled and kissed my foster mom – so happy to be out of my cage! She put me in a doggie car seat next to her for the whole ride and gave me yummy treats and chew toys. I felt safe and finally fell asleep. My foster mom says I am a very friendly and social boy. But I don’t have much bite inhibition, and I like to chew on your fingers and hands! My foster mom thinks that being in a multi-age and multi-dog home will help teach me manners. I am learning I can’t play-bite everything that comes near my face! I’m a really happy and high-energy puppy! I love every dog I met at Shiba HQ and tried to play with everyone, but I’m learning how to play appropriately. I really like following my foster mom everywhere! I have really good recall, and I don’t even know my name yet! I know my foster mom is very patient with me and only uses rewards, so I love coming to her for pets or treats. She thinks I will be easy to train off-leash and will work on my recalls. I’m also potty trained and can hold it through the night. I am pretty clumsy as I grow into my big paws and big ears! I sometimes trip when I am running. My foster mom taught me to walk down the stairs, and I am getting better at it, but sometimes I just forget how to do it and throw myself down! But I get up quickly. I am mouthy, so I need a family who will patiently redirect me to an appropriate chew. Otherwise, DC SIR thinks I’m a sweet, goofy and lovable boy who will do great with a family who love to use reward based training!
