Tora is a 2 year old male Shiba Inu.  Follow his Facebook Album.

Hello everyone, my name is now Tora, and it means ‘Tiger’ in Japanese. I am a 2-year-old male Shiba Inu. I was surrendered to DC SIR because my family had changes in their circumstances. I was surrendered with my fearful, 5-year-old, Shiba Inu, sisfur, Yuzu. I am quite the opposite of my fearful and shy sister. I just love people. If I haven’t met you, but you wanna meet me, I will jump all over you and try to give you my super special Shiba kisses! I may not have the best social skills when it comes to meeting other dogs; I tend to try to nip at them to greet them! Once I am properly integrated with another dog, I get along just fine. I don’t have the best doggie manners. If Yuzu and I are getting treats, I will go to her and take the treat right out of her mouth! I even tried to take the neutral dog, Katniss’s, treat from her mouth during our assessment. I really love treats, so I will be easy to train! When I first met the volunteer with DC SIR, I was happy to see her. I did try to lunge and nip at Katniss. After we had a staggered walk together, and sniffed where each other had marked, I was calm enough to walk next to Katniss. Within 20 minutes, I was fine being around her. When I got to Shiba HQ, I got to explore the yard and meet other dogs. Unfortunately, every dog I meet I try to nip at, and introductions need to be slow and paced. But once I am calm, I was OK off-leash with all my new friends. I loved meeting all the volunteers and happily ran up to anyone who called me. I was hoping they would have some yummy treats! My owners said I would be fine adopted on my own, but my sister, Yuzu, is so dependent on me to feel comfortable in new spaces that I should stay with her. We’ll need a home that wants to take us both in. Yuzu and I have our own issues and quirks, but we are pretty typical Shiba Inus! If you think you have the patience for working with a fearful dog like my sisfur, Yuzu, and the patience to introduce me to other dogs properly, then follow our story and apply for us after our two-week medical and behavior assessment!
