Hello everyone, my name is now Yuriko, and it means ‘Lily child’ in Japanese, but you can call me Yuri for short. I am a 7-year-old female Shiba Inu. I was taken to a Tennessee shelter after my owner died. I lived with 3 other dogs, and two of them were quickly adopted. My housemate, Luna, also a Shiba Inu, was left at the shelter with me. Luckily for us, very kind volunteers at the shelter took us into their home while we waited for a home-based rescue to take us in. I went to one foster home with other dogs, and Luna went to another multi-dog house. Lucky for us, DC SIR immediately agreed to take us into their rescue and ensured all our medical was done before we head up to the DC area. You may wonder why Luna and I didn’t stay together, but the truth is we are not bonded and tend to do better with other dogs! Let me tell you a bit about myself. I am shy and reserved, but when I trust you, I will nuzzle up for pets. I lived in a multi-pet home in foster and did well, but I would growl if other dogs spent too much time in my face. Otherwise, I did great with everyone! After a week, I met up with Luna for a long transport to DC SIR. Once Luna and I got to Shiba HQ, we got to explore the yard on our own. Soon we met all the other Shibas there, and I did great meeting so many other dogs. The DC SIR volunteer could see I was more confident when Luna was nearby. Afterwards, I had a shower with Luna and a nail trim. I wasn’t a fan the nail trim, but the DC SIR volunteer said I still did great with the handling and enjoyed taking boiled chicken, and dehydrated farm treats. I had to spend the night at Shiba HQ until my foster mom could pick me up in the morning, and I slept in the main room with the other dogs without any issues. Soon my foster family picked me up and took me to my new foster home, where I will live with two other Shibas. I have settled in quickly and even slept in bed with my foster parents and Shiba shiblings. I am shy and will probably do best in a quiet home where I can feel safe.
