Koji is a male senior who was rescued by DC SIR and adopted in 2013. Here is Koji’s adoption story, as told by his dad.

My wife and I adopted Koji in May 2013. We already had a senior mixed-breed, Lady Goldenpaw, and thought she might like company in her golden years. Koji came in a bit shell-shocked from being abandoned, but every day he warms up more-and-more to our love. Lady Goldenpaw is pretty jealous of Koji, as she’s always been top dog, but Koji tries his best to share. As a senior Shiba, Koji is pretty stubborn when he wants to be. Sometimes during walks he just decides he’s done. He’ll basically stop moving or resist to the point we need to carry him.

During the first year, Koji kept to himself and was reluctant to cuddle. But, over the course of the past year, he’s began waiting for us when we get home from work. His little tail wiggles and his feet slip and slide on our wood floors. He likes to greet us with his signature “AROOOO!” Lately, K-man has been jumping on the bed and pawing to be cuddled.

We love our senior Shiba and have no desire to adopt anything but older dogs. Older dogs have so much to offer, especially when they feel loved. Koji was obviously neglected and/or abused by a previous owner, but now that he understands what love is, he is constantly reciprocating affection.

Thank you to Koji’s family for restoring his confidence and giving him comfort and love! See more of Koji in his rescue album and in his past alumni updates from July 2013 and November 2013.
