My husband, Nick, and I adopted a senior Shiba from DC SIR in early June. She is ten years old. Her name is Willow (formerly Yuki). We were not thinking about adopting a senior and were focused on a Shiba 1 to 4 years old. We also did not want to adopt a puppy at this time due to our schedules. When we met Willow at an event we thought she was so sweet and decided to pursue her. She ended up doing well with our cats and had a gentle and sweet personality. She was the right Shiba for us.

We love having her and also find a senior is a good for our first Shiba. We both grew up with dogs but never had one on our own. A senior Shiba still has the personality traits of a Shiba but on a lower gear. She is lower key and potty trained and her schedule works for us. We walk her twice a day and more on weekends. I think seniors offer a sweetness and something special.

Thank you to Willow’s family for giving this sweet senior the loving home she deserves! See more of Willow’s rescue journey in her album.
