DCSIR rescued Gus (formerly Yoshi) last year, and he found his forever home on Nov. 8, 2012. To celebrate the 1 year anniversary of Gus’ adoption, his parents provided an update:

It’a hard to believe that we got Gus (formerly Yoshi) a year ago today.  He has truly become apart of our family and it’s amazing how far he has come.  He used to be scared of everything–now it’s just most things.  He’s still got that Shiba independent streak, but he’s become quite the snuggly guy when we ask the right way and scratch him enough to get him to stay.

He continues to amaze us with how very smart he is too.  He has learned a remarkable number of tricks and picks them up with remarkable speed.  By far his favorite thing is his weekly long walk in Rock Creek Park, where he never misses an opportunity to chase birds and squirrels and goes a little crazy when he plays on the river banks.

He’s still getting there with being around dogs, but that’s not to say he hasn’t made progress.  We have learned that he is quite a big fan of cats, who he can chase all day long so long as they’re game.  He’s starting a new class next month to help him learn to be around other dogs, which we hope will help him over that last hurdle.

We wanted to let you know that he has proven to be a perfect dog and we love having him as a big part of our family.

Congratulations again to Gus & family, and thank you for the update!
