DariBlog1Hi, my name is Dari! I am looking for my perfect forever home, so I thought it might help if I told everyone more about myself!

The vet thinks I am about 6 years old. I spent most of my life trapped in a cage at a puppy mill, forced to breed repeatedly with no regard to my health or well-being. I never got to play, I never got to feel a loving touch or hear a kind voice. I lived in squalid conditions, and it seemed my misery would never end.

All of that changed in August, when DC SIR rescued me, along with 7 other dogs from the puppy mill. We became known as the Missouri 8, and our lives changed radically for the better. I was so afraid when we were first rescued – fear was all I had ever known. Although I was frightened, I soon began to have hope.

Suddenly, we had so many people caring about us and supporting us!

I was placed in a loving foster home with incredibly kind and patient foster parents. They understood that I was shy and nervous, so they took time to build trust with me, and after a while I started to trust them, too!

For the first time in my life, I was able to walk around, take long walks, to play with other dogs and toys, to snuggle with a warm blanket, and sleep safely with the knowledge that I would never have to go back to the puppy mill again.

Dari Williamsburg 3

I’ve gotten to celebrate several holidays, like Halloween and Thanksgiving, for the first time ever as a free dog! I’ve never had so much fun in my life! Last week, my foster parents took me on something called a vacation to Colonial Williamsburg. I got to walk around and explore, and had a great time!

Over the past few months, I have been attending DC SIR adoption events. At first I was shy, and preferred to stay in a crate, but over time I learned that people can be nice and loving, so now I walk around to meet new friends. I have been happy to see so many of my fellow rescues meet their forever families and be adopted into their homes. I can’t wait to join them as DC SIR Alumni.

Although all of us in the Missouri 8 had lived in miserable conditions, I took a little more time to recover. I was heart worm positive, so I had to undergo dangerous treatment. Thankfully, the treatments went well, and I am clear and free now! I don’t require any further treatment!

Now that I am healthy and confident, I am ready to be adopted! I really hope I find a forever home soon. Everyone tells me I am a very sweet girl. I get along well with other dogs, cats, and children.

The first years of my life were rough, but I am ready to put those behind me forever, and hope to begin the new year of my new life with a new family! Who knows, maybe it could be with you!

xoxo,

Dari

P.S. My wonderful foster mother made a video of my five months in her care!
