November is Adopt a Senior Month, so in honor of this we are featuring updates of some of our adopted Senior alumni.
Nami is an 11 year old senior who spent her whole life with the same family, until they surrendered her to a shelter in April 2013. After spending 49 days in a shelter, she was rescued by DCSIR on June 23, 2013, and on July 11, she was adopted by her foster parents! Here is an update from Nami’s parents.
It’s hard to believe Nami has only been with us for 4 months. From the first day she arrived at our house, she immediately made herself at home and part of the family. Without other pets or children in the house, Nami is always the center of attention, which she loves! She also has lots of human relatives and a canine cousin, Kiwi, that live nearby, all of whom adore her.
Nami has many likes: treats, long walks, treats, playing chase, treats, playing with a rope, treats, cuddling, treats, crunching leaves, treats, chasing rabbits and squirrels, and treats! She is also a bit of a blanket thief, and at any given time has at least 4 or 5 blankets to nest on.
She is very popular in our neighborhood, and quickly gained many human and canine friends! Not a day goes by when Nami doesn’t get to walk or play with other pups. She also gets spoiled with attention by the children on our street, many of whom call her by a nickname they’ve given her, “Sweet Buddy.”
In late August, Nami suddenly developed canine vestibular disease, but thankfully she recovered, and is back to her old self! Even when she wasn’t feeling well, her spirits were high and she had a great attitude, which we think helped her heal.
Nami appreciates all that DCSIR has done for her, so occasionally she attends DCSIR events as an alumni ambassador. She loves to work a crowd and get lots of pets! She also recently went to a meetup at the Manassas dog park, and while she’s not as rambunctious as some of the younger Shibas, she does enjoy getting to spend time with them.
As much as she loves being with other dogs and people, though, at the end of the day, she just likes to curl up on a mountain of blankets or in one of her beds with her favorite toy, her stuffed gator.
Nami is just about the sweetest dog ever, and we are so lucky to have her as part of our family!
