Kisa came into rescue with severe eye infections and bald leathery skin that was itchy and infected.

We have changed her diet and treated her eyes with the right medication. The globs of green infection that once accumulated in her eyes hourly are finally gone. The hair along her nose and front legs is starting to grow back! Unfortunately, the hair around her back legs and tail have not started to grow back and she has had more hair loss around her eyes as we have treated the eye infection. While we have had many dogs who have taken some time to heal, our vet says that the years of damaged skin may mean that she will never grow hair back in some of these areas with severe follicle trauma. He noted that we are at a crossroads and the regrowth on the blackened skin may take time or it may never grow back.

Now that Kisa’s eye infection and her itching have subsided and all but completely disappeared, we want to focus on the physical appearance of her coat.

We would like to get a second opinion at a new integrative veterinarian for other alternative treatments for stimulating follicle growth in addition to our anti-inflammatory program she is currently on. This is a highly recommended place but also more costly.

Please consider making a small donation to Kisa’s fund so we can schedule her specialty appointment. While we have made leaps and bounds removing the infection, itching and irritation from her life we would like to do everything we can to bring back a lush and regal Shiba Inu fur!

Kisa has been living with multiple rescues. She prefers the company of people to that of dogs but gets along with most of the dogs that come through the Shiba HQ. She has been sleeping a lot and enjoys trachea treats (one of the few bagged treats she is allowed!)

Kisa is not a fan of the backyard and always comes running indoors. Kisa LOVES going for walks in the neighborhood with her foster parents and other dogs on leash. This would make Kisa a great companion for someone in an apartment.
