November is Adopt a Senior Month, so in honor of this we are featuring updates of some of our adopted Senior alumni.

MikoSeniorNovember

Miko was rescued by DCSIR in Frebruary 2013 after being neglected, ignored, and finally, abandoned by her family of 12 years. Her rescue story was heartbreaking, and she came to us with a number of medical issues, including Lyme disease and extensive tooth damage. On February 23, 2013, Miko was adopted! Here is the update from her family:

cat cuddle

Miko is absolutely wonderful and she has really made herself at home with our three other kitties.  She lets us know what she needs by either politely tapping us with a paw or snuggling really close (usually the snuggles are followed by grunts).

My husband can’t bring dogs to work, but I can! She has been a wonderful ‘office dog’ and the folks at my office enjoy seeing her. They will stop by my cubicle to give Miko extra attention if I have to run to important meetings. Miko also gives me grunts at work when she needs to go out to go potty.

adventure

She had an ear infection awhile ago, but since then she has recovered wonderfully. However, as a result – she tilts her head to the side. We are unsure if this is just out of habit (from having the infection) or if it was as a result of the infection. Either way, it makes her Miko and she we love her either way.

When we first adopted Miko back in February, she didn’t have much fur on her belly, but now she does and her fur is very plush. We made the decision to continue the raw diet the rescue started her on and it has done wonders for her.

We don’t see many shiba parents in Richmond, so when folks see her they always think shes a puppy! But in fact she is a senior shiba. Senior shibas are wonderful and my husband and I are very thankful and happy that Miko is in our lives.

We could not be happier for Miko! Thank you to Miko’s family for the update!
